Women's Health Committee
Women’s Health is the newest JCC Committee, focused on reducing stigma surrounding menstruation and providing basic education regarding relationships, emotions, puberty, and menstruation. Most of our work pertains to middle schoolers and high schoolers and community resource fairs, in which we work to donate menstrual products to last for a month and general hygiene supplies such as deodorant wipes anddisposal bags. Our goal is to make women’s health as easy to understand and to make it accessible across sexes, cultures, and socioeconomic spaces.
One of our previous events was a joint event with YWCA to host a “know your body” day, educating children on puberty, hormones and how to navigate healthy relationships as they age. We have visited Esperanza elementary school as well to teach them the same topics, and, through a collaboration with the Ladybug Project, the committee has donated over 100 menstrual equity bags across 3 resource fairs. We have also visited two different classrooms at DeJean Middle school where we talked about friendships, emotional wellbeing, and self respect, as well as we played red flag, green flag.
