Last spring, JCC collaborated with Lotus Bloom, a family resource center based in Oakland that provides children five and under and their caregivers with a space to learn, play, gain confidence, and build connections. Lotus Bloom also connects families with health and educational resources—and that last part is where we come in! Our members educated families about common healthcare misconceptions related to children’s health while providing accessible information to help caregivers make informed decisions.
JCC had the opportunity to visit Esperanza Elementary School, where members connected with students through engaging lessons focused on health and wellness. Our Public Health, Medical, Dental, and Vision committees worked together to create interactive activities that introduced healthy habits, oral hygiene, and vision care in approachable ways that encouraged students to take an active interest in their health.
Last school year, Junior Care Clinic (JCC) had the privilege of returning to Nystrom Elementary School to share engaging, hands-on lessons with students from first through sixth grade. Our committees—Public Health, Medical, Dental, and Vision—each designed interactive presentations to make health education accessible, memorable, and fun. From learning about the importance of nutrition and hygiene to exploring careers in medicine and receiving personalized vision screenings, our goal was to empower students with knowledge that supports their well-being both now and in the future.
JCC partnered with ROOTS Community Health's in their annual Neighborhood Empowerment Day (NED), a resource fair to "support the legacy of resilience that thrives within our 40x40 block communities in East Oakland." The Dental, Medical, and Public Health committees showed up to the event to help empower the local community with screenings (including vitals and vision) and educational activities (like bingo and health demonstrations) for students, educators, and parents.
